This information is provided by Provet for educational purposes only. You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet. The scientific
evidence to support the administration of nutritional supplements to pets is
often very weak. Best evidence are
randomised controlled trials (RCTs) Beta-1,3/1,6
glucans (n=1 non-RCT) A diet enriched with beta-1,3/1,6 glucans was examined by
subjective owner assessment for possible benefits in dogs with OA (n=23)
compared to placebo (n=23) but over time the differences between groups were
not statistically significant (Beynen 2010). Evidence : WEAK – No effect References Beynen AC, Legerstee E. (2010) Influence of dietary
beta-1, 3/1 ,6-glucans on clinical signs of canine OA in a double-blind,
placebo controlled trial. Am J Anim Vet Sci 5:97-101.
